Thermal Image Camera

A thermal image camera has many benefits if you are considering going down this route and thermal imaging has become increasingly more popular popular today for those going down the problem solving and analysis area.

With it’s ability to isolate problem areas, a thermal image is also a lightweight piece of equipment as well as featuring ergonomic values and the offering great performance such as high resolution thermal detectors. In respect, they are not much different to a normal digital style camera as you point and click except of course, they snap a thermal picture.

Buying A Thermal Image Camera

So what are some of the things you need to consider whne shopping for thermal image cameras? We consider three main points and they are:

- the resolution ability of the camera
- it’s accuracy and
- the camera’s temperature range

Lookiing for a high resolution camera means looking at the number pixels the camera has. The higher the number the higher the detail on the thermal image. Each pixel forms the temperature reading ability of the camera.

Meanwhile accuracy is important. Looking for an accuracy reading between 3-5% is desired. And the temperature range is often overlooked when shopping for thermal imaging which doesn’t make a lot of sense. For example, because there is a specific temperature range limit, you want to be sure the weather or climate in your area won’t be an issue. If you live in an extremely cold climate or a hot climate then you want to make sure the camera is built to handle these conditions and able to take measurements withing these temperature ranges.

Thermal image cameras are an ideal addition to several professions. Law enforcement agencies have been using them to great effect for years. For other professions such as plumbing and pest control they have proven to have the ability to solve problems. There ability to see in conditions where the human eye can’t make them extremely valuable.

How much do they cost? Yes, they were once priced out of the range of the everyday consumer but have certainly been brought back to a price level that many can now afford. It depends a lot on the type of festures you’re after such as a photographic overlay of the thermal image or a voice feature. But for just under $3000, they are certainly within the price reach of many professionals. It’s definitely a chance for you to set yourself apart from your competitors.
